In Zurich remnants of the original Roman Customs house, fortress, and the imperial medieval residence, can be seen in a quiet square known as Lindenhof that overlooks both sides of the old town. A fountain in this square recalls the bravery of the women of Zurich who saved the town from the advances of the Hapsburgs in 1292. Donning armour they marched to the Lindenhof giving the Hapsburg forces the impression that another mighty army was approaching. It was all too much for the enemy forces and they retreated in immediate and ignoble flight.
